Their are many examples of modern day checks and balances. First you shall know "check and balances" are but before that you must know what the "separation of powers" is. The "separation of powers" is the splitting of powers between three parts of government. The "separation of powers" was put in place so that we won't be able to gain any Tyranny in the US. So "checks and balances" feed off "separation of powers", "checks and balances" feed off "separation of powers" because they explain how the "separations of powers". The Executive Branch checks Legislative Branches by Vetoing an law. The Legislative Branch checks the Executive Branch by passing the veto law ( only can happen with two-thirds votes by congress). The Executive Branch checks the Judicial Branch by appointing Supreme Court Justices. The Judicial checks them back by deciding if the Presidents action are lawful or unlawful. The Legislative Branch checks the Judicial Branch by having the Senate decide on the President's nomination.
